Elseworld's Finest - Supergirl & Batgirl

So it took me a few false starts to actually read this all the way through. The premise? Barbara Gordon is Batgirl, twice as ruthless and decked out with cool toys than Bruce as Batman ever was. Bruce in this story is Bruce Wayne, foppish billionaire and basically Barbara's sidekick. He stands around in a suit in the cave and talks about chasing women while Babs has all the fun. Kara is Supergirl, who came to Earth as a teenager and was taken under Diana's wing.

Where's Clark? A test tube in Luthor's lab. ::shudder::

Anyway...




Check out the abs on Hawkwoman there. I wouldn't mess with her. At all. She's scary.

So Lex is dating Supergirl. And Lex has been kidnapped.

She goes to Gotham seeking him out, and despite the required initial animosity Batgirl has for Supergirl, they get close.



The idea is, with Barbara as Batgirl, that she developed Oracle as a monitoring and computer architecture throughout Gotham before ever putting a cape on, so she's got eyes and ears everywhere. And doesn't allow metas in Gotham, so making a quick exception for our fair blonde? Interesting.

They find the test tube of ClarkFetus(tm) and get all pissed, and go after Luthor.






Oh Barbara and her passion. She's always made an excellent creature of the night, and she was definitely the saving grace of a story that includes jacked-up Joker and more sexual innuendo than... well... DC Comics. ::laughs::

Oh, and, musn't forget to include silly foppy Bruce in this.




So, it's halfway decent. Has its moments and all. But really, Babs is the only reason to pay any attention to this book. Especially when running around in her underwear. Kara's kinda blah, and I would have liked to see more of the Dr. Midnite with boobs. Is it just me, or is Hawkwoman about to grab her and carry her away to have crazy rough lesbian sex in the woods?






Elseworlds, how I love thee.

Especially with the gender-bending and all.

Dr. Midnight with oobs is tiny! tiny little pretty girl! dainty, even! I would pair her with Rayanna Palmer, and they would have tiny dainty wild sex.

This gender bender madness is starting to get to me! And foppish Bruce is so adorable 'But I had plans!'. I'm sure you did, Bruce. I'm sure you did.

And, erm. Hawkwoman is scary. I will not mess with Hawkwoman. And is it me, or lately Barda has been looking specially good in your posts?

In fact, I think I'm going to put her in my big giant Flash/Bats story. Because I'm all about her right now.

These are great scans, of course. However, they drive home one very important point to me: DC has lost all touch with reality where Babs is concerned, and frankly, has turned her into a Mary Sue. I mean, it gets bad sometimes in BoP where she ocassionally Lords over the other Birds without any of the comeuppance she deserves, but here? Come on, DC. Batgirl AND Oracle? The only reason Oracle exists is because of the events of "The Killing Joke." Without those events, there's no Oracle. Trying to squeeze it in anyway is cheap. Mary Sues are bad and makes me think Jason and Babs should have switched places in TKJ and ADITF. Bah.

Also, it reeks of an author's need to overcompensate for the fact that Babs is a woman. What was good enough for Bruce apparently isn't good enough for Babs. Because Batgirl has to work harder, do more, etc than Batman - and still has to be called BatGIRL.

Oh, and Mary Sue Gordon is perfect, but Supergirl is blah and needs to be shown the error of her ways by the Great Sue. This story annoys me greatly. I'm going to have to go read more Babs/Dinah fic to sooth my Babs hate.

None of this hate is directed towards you, Victoria. Obviously. Scans win, genderbending wins, etc.

::laughs:: No hate taken. It's one of the many, many flaws this story has. And yeah, what's up with the whole Batgirl thing? I dunno. LAME.

I can overlook Babs being all lordy in BoP because I can, but I think the JLA version of Oracle was generally a bit more realistic. She'd occasionally need ::gasp:: help and would sometimes even not know what to do! Gracious, what a concept.

My relationship with Babs is truly love/hate. Sometimes she does things and I adore her character, other times I want to smack her. HARD. ;)
