...and becomes the Flash.

Scans from The Flash #1, from way back in 1987. Wally's living in New York, his powers aren't what they used to be, he has no secret identity, and there's a few very similar themes to what Bart's now going through.

Except, of course, that his first villain is way cooler. And the art suffers from being almost twenty years old.

Love how Wally was constantly using his powers like this; even after getting a secret identity.

At first glance, Wally appears to be acting like kinda a dick. But think about it; it is a big thing to ask right at the drop of a hat like that. He doesn't get paid for being the Flash, he's strapped for cash, and he has no health insurance. I'm not sure I'd be any more altruistic.

Big difference between Bart and Wally as new Flashes; Wally idolized Barry, his mentor. Bart idolizes Barry the grandfather he barely ever met; but didn't have the previous Flash as a mentor like that.

This is neat because when Wally's running? Almost always just blurs. He's rarely going slow enough to even describe where he's running through.

Dun dun DUN! Vandal Savage! ::gasp::

Stomach condition... heh...

Strongest similar theme; feeling lonely. This issue began with the Titans throwing him a birthday bash; he got called away to deliver the heart. And in the end, he still is by himself. ::pets the Wally::

See, he is lucky! XD

He doesn't, of course; Vandal Savage shows up and makes sure of that. And does lots of horrible things to Wally before he's done with him. Actually kills him at one point; but Wally's a lucky boy, and had a fail-safe even he didn't know about for things like... death... back then.

Way different than the new Flash series? You betcha. But really... not so far off in a lot of ways, too.
