Superman Confidential #14

Okay, so most of the time I don't really follow Superman books. They're fine, and have their moments, but just not enough to really capture my attention more than once every few issues. This has been true for some time. I like old-school Superman. That's what I got into comics on, my gateway drug was John Byrne... and you know what they say about first loves. So I'm totally biased, just so you know. Also, there are spoilers for a book this week. End warnings.
This story? I so liked, I totally had to share right away. That might have something to do with it being written in the very early days of Superman's career; those are my favourite. Lois isn't even the girlfriend yet, which is best for everybody, really. It had moments where I was so impressed; where I thought "Why hasn't any other comic book done that before?"

Plus, Toyman. :D

With all the silly names villains have, I'm surprised I haven't heard more outrage on this subject. When you really can't believe some guy would run around with a name like that, you really can't believe he'd name himself that. This explanation and Toyman's reaction? That I'd believe.

While stealing the watch to summon Superman happens, taking it apart and reproducing it to keep him distracted? Hee. That's just great.
And check out the just-a-little-excessive internal dialogue boxes. I love that shit, haha.

a) Jimmy never seems to learn not to taunt the super-villains.
b) A lot of people get tied up all the time, for long periods of time. In the DCU, it seems rare that people need to take a leak.

::applauds::
I love that. Clark is so cool. So are killer toy monkeys.

on 2008-04-12 09:05 pm (UTC)It's mostly the Robins and Wonder Woman, I've noticed.
Wonder Woman has an invisible bladder of truth.
Robin was trained by Batman.
Then there are random civilians and romantic interests, but they aren't important enough to have a bladder.

As for the hostages' bladders... Maybe they're too scared to even think about peeing? Even though there's that saying '... so scared that they pissed their pants' or whatever. *shrugs*
