Catwoman #58
Memories Are Made of This
In one sentence? If you haven't been reading Catwoman since long before OYL, you'll be lost. In fact, there's so much drawn from so many different storylines, this issue is like a nexus between Identity Crisis, Flash: Rogue War, the sub-plot of Zatanna's mind-alteration of Selina, and everything that's happened in this book since... maybe even last year... it was just a little too top-heavy.

The buzz around this book right now, is, of course, the paternity of the baby. This issue may be including obvious foreshadowing. Or teasing. I'm even less sure of a guess right now; with how DC has been doing things OYL, I don't know if they're going to go for the obvious suspect for the DCU audience in general or the obvious suspect for people that have been following Catwoman for a good while now, Sam.
Even though I understand the context of what's going on in this book, I still had a few places where I had to stop and think to not be totally lost with Selina's plot.
Holly's plot was infinitely more interesting, which surprised the hell out of me.

It's only a few pages with her even in it, but I was way more into that, and it's those moments that would have had me buying this issue, for the most part. Up until this point, she's been strikingly different from Selina as Catwoman; she's new to this. She's not laden with the baggage and continuity of Selina Kyle, and is riding the rooftop express a bit recklessly; and it just bit her in the ass.
All this makes me really wonder what they're planning on doing with her. Is Selina going to be Catwoman or not? I have no idea, but I'll keep going to find out.

I love Zee, but I'm really, really tired of her every appearance being about the mindwiping. It's not the only thing she's ever done, people. She's turning into a DC deus ex machina with extra angst for flavour, and I don't think it does her justice.
Nightwing #123
Fire Down Below
I'm sure the logic behind this issue was something like this: they realized that the story up to this point wasn't being well received, and decided to make up for it with gratuitous beefcake. There might be a plot here somewhere, but I'm not really sure I even care.

I'm sorry Dick, were you saying something? XD
Jesus. They're really workin' that hair angle, aren't they? Is this a comic book, or a prelude to softcore porn?

I'm going to vote softcore porn for now.
There's no way that position can be at all comfortable for acrobatics. He's all twisted around and it's such an obvious money-shot. And really? The art is the only reason to look at this book right now... well, not entirely, but I'll get to that in a second.

Um, okay, so Dick is chasing a pyro, and the fashion designer both he and Jason were chasing, Cheyenne, is involved, but just so they could push her on the plot some more, as far as I can see.
And now, for the part many have been waiting for; when the Hell is someone going to even mention that Dick and Babs were engaged? They finally do, vaguely, for a couple pages or so. No details, just the predictable.

I've read shitty fanfic that dealt with emotions better than this. Haven't been that many women? Um, hello? Should I start counting off on my fingers or something? Will that help you, Dick? How long is he supposed to stay an awkward teenager about his relationships? He was MARRIED to Starfire. They were attached at the hip, and now it wasn't even really love? Give me a fuckin' break.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all about superhero divorce, and I think it should be much more prevalent than superhero marriage, if we're going to be honest. But don't just disregard these things because it's easier for your plot.
Robin #153
Run Through The Jungle
Continuing with the meeting between Tim and Owen Harkness, this issue was everything I wanted it to be. They're working together, and they can't decide if they like each other or hate each other, and settle with gratuitous snark.

Definitely saving the best for last. At the end of the last issue, Robin was pursuing an atom bomb the Joker had left somewhere in Gotham, primed to go off, and Owen showed up offering his help, bringing the levity this book was begging for after the incident with Cassandra.

I want to see a series with these two, seriously. How cool would that be? On the same side... tenuously. Just as willing to fight each other as the enemy, but ultimately stepping up to the plate when they need to.
Oh wait, they already have Cable & Deadpool. XD
Owen isn't that crazy, but the dynamic is very similar, and he manages to be almost lackadaisical without being incompetent, and just distracted enough by teasing Tim to have an obligatory 'not paying attention and therefore runs into something and smacks his nose' joke.

The dialogue and... interesting encounters these two have on their way to their goal is what makes this issue. Seriously. To be much loved, unless you can't stand caped vigilantes or things like humour, in which case, why the hell are you reading my journal?

I can't remember the last time I enjoyed Robin this much, and it's definitely gone back on my sub list, for this one story alone.
So that's my week in new comics from The Secret Hideout, which is still the coolest name for a comic book store I've ever heard. Now go buy Robin. XD
