This series has the occasional story lines that I just love; and this is shaping up to be one of them.

The League discusses terrorism, interfering in world politics... and Arthur makes it clear how he feels. And what's this? Clark shushing Bruce? XD

Some very cool things happening in this art, especially the green effects for Kyle's ring.

I miss this JLA... )

The UN decides the issue of intervention for them....

What to do? Go forward with the plan, anyway, of course. But to the rest of the world, the JLA can never be there.

Bruce being Batman without a uniform... oh man. Never gets old.

Undercover in civvies JLA? I love it. )

JLA: Classified #27, second of the Secret History... storyline comes out tomorrow. I, for one, can't wait.

I'm a real sucker for the whole covert superheroes thing, can't you tell? And despite the strong political tones of this story, it's shaping up to be interesting.

Scans from The Flash: Fastest Man Alive #3 and geeky commentary. Because this issue, surprisingly more than the others with their flashbacks, just begged for it.

Spoilers. Of course.

The reluctant hero... )

This was, by far, my favourite issue in this run to date. I'm sure the appearance of the costume had something to do with that. And everything I just babbled about. XD

Catwoman #58

Memories Are Made of This

In one sentence? If you haven't been reading Catwoman since long before OYL, you'll be lost. In fact, there's so much drawn from so many different storylines, this issue is like a nexus between Identity Crisis, Flash: Rogue War, the sub-plot of Zatanna's mind-alteration of Selina, and everything that's happened in this book since... maybe even last year... it was just a little too top-heavy.

Continued, with bonus Wildcat. )

Nightwing #123

Fire Down Below

I'm sure the logic behind this issue was something like this: they realized that the story up to this point wasn't being well received, and decided to make up for it with gratuitous beefcake. There might be a plot here somewhere, but I'm not really sure I even care.

Continued, with beefcake. )

Robin #153

Run Through The Jungle

Continuing with the meeting between Tim and Owen Harkness, this issue was everything I wanted it to be. They're working together, and they can't decide if they like each other or hate each other, and settle with gratuitous snark.

Continued, with snark. )

So that's my week in new comics from The Secret Hideout, which is still the coolest name for a comic book store I've ever heard. Now go buy Robin. XD

Darker than Death.

I just was gifted a scanner, and am playing. Can't you tell?

I had a few words to say about the first issue in this storyarc, which is apparently the one that will end Legends of the Dark Knight... so they're going out with a bang.

And such a bang.

The mood of the book is the most striking thing about this book, both in text and in the art. Which is gorgeous.

Always darkest before the dawn... )

The way that relationships are developed in the story is also... quite something. While the sub-plot of his newfound romance with the socialite has come to a place of angst in the first few pages, she's still very much in the forefront of Bruce's mind. And Alfred is done... perfectly. Stoic, both leaving more unsaid than said.

Oh yeah, and shirtless Bruce.

Snippets of shirtless Bruce in the cave )

But there's also girls, girls, girls. And done so that those boobs look real. Much too rare in this industry, I think.

Girls with snakes! )

This storyarc has been supremely satisfying on so many levels. And proves once again... yes, Bruce can be written as both a human being, and as a kickass Batman. Learn it DC, you've got all the good examples in the world. I'll miss Legends of the Dark Knight, but they're giving it a sendoff that almost makes it worth it.

Oliver Queen is the greatest fictional politician I've ever read.

He's playing politics like dancing with a villain, and he's brilliant at it. No other mayor has the balls to slam some sleazy fucker's head into a desk, then pwn him like the pansy-ass little turd he is.

This series just keeps getting better and better. If you have any love at all for the Emerald Archer, you'll be doing yourself a favour to follow his new ambitions as mayor of Star City.

Welcome to the world of politics. )

...or, another reminder of just how awesome the Big Three are together.

And had art from pretty much every awesome DC artist behind a story that Brad Meltzer makes work in a very surreal way.

More spoilers than a barrel of rotten apples )

Thank you, DC. This almost makes up for Infinite Crisis. Almost.
