The Flash #76

There are a couple of issues of The Flash I read over and over; and this is one of them. The cover itself is an homage to The Flash #184 from 1968, which you can see more about here at hyperborea.org.
Barry has come back to life; at least, that's what everyone, including himself, thinks. This issue is like, halfway through that story, but it has some recap of all the important bits. It goes into how Wally feels about being the Flash after Barry, and what it all means to him, and it's such well done angst.

Obviously, this was during Wally's pre-Speed Force shiny suit era.

But seriously; check out the shrinelike photo on the wall. Wally fairly worshipped Barry Allen, as a mentor, a father, and a martyr. I love it.

Always, always with the checkin' out the ladies.

This next sequence is brilliant. For so many reasons. The high contrast. The TV being the only noise. Yes.

He's so distraught he's vibrating involuntarily; one of those little used, but interesting things that speedsters do. The symbolism of putting on and taking off the uniform? Kills me, it does. Quality angst.
This issue was also Max's introduction to the DCU, with those scans in this post. And, of course, ultimately Barry turns out to actually be Professor Zoom (long story) and his bitch-smacking once Wally finds out is in this random pile of Flash scans.
And, almost completely unrelated, this here is still one of my favourite conversations between Bruce and Wally. But A League of One still wins. XD
