With Superman Confidential being new and Batman Confidential soonly replacing Legends of the Dark Knight, buzz was high at the comic store about how they'd be; Batman's previews look nice, and this week was the first issue for Superman. And what a first issue it is.
Tim Sale's artwork is a personal favourite of mine, and I'm glad I've finally mastered the art of the scanner for it. He makes Superman just look... more super.

Reading this for the first time was kinda like reading All-Star Superman, that kind of fondness for Clark Kent that's very... absent from a lot of books these days. Along with the art, which has such wonderful use of colour.

Fabulous. Perry's speech, the look on their faces in the last panel... even Jimmy looks ready to tackle a raging bull. And I must point out, that old-school looking Lois is by far my favourite of her incarnations.

The other really impressive book this week on my sub list was Justice League of America #3; but that's kinda a given, I'm really all about the direction of things. It starts out with Black Lightning facing off with Dr. Impossible and Trident; Trident isn't so much of a challenge, but his partner is another story.
And Red Tornado, still coping with his humanity, gets a visit from the big man himself.

Meanwhile...

And guess who's back to haunt the JLA?

I'm so digging Ed Benes's artwork. And Dr. Impossible. And bringing the Stranger into it? Very nice.

on 2006-11-02 09:54 pm (UTC)Do you have a link to Batman Confindential previews? Looking forward to the first issues as I've heard there will be a storyline about Lex and Bruce's first meeting.

The new JLA looks pretty damn cool. And I have a liking for Sale's art too. It looks very.. vintage? not exactly... but yeah, old school, I guess. It looks fun, dammit. I remember getting The Long Halloween and Superman For All Seasons together. I was very impressed with Sale's range and the wonderful use of color. That Supes book looks really cool.
