The "lost epic" of Neil Gaiman and all, this book was remarkably awesome. Even has the Stranger telling off the Lords of Order, which never gets old.

Hal comes to Metropolis and Clark is very happy to see him.

Please note that Clark is a vegetarian.

Then, some punks in the park pick the wrong two dudes to try and rob.

Hal Jordan love, seriously. I love the way he's drawn here, too.

OMG. Unexpected levels of awesomeness, even for Neil Gaiman. Can he please write more DC books? I mean, how awesome would it be if he wrote a JLA book?

Kyle Rayner: by leaps, bounds, and a lot-ness. Followed by Mogo, Kilowog, Hal, Guy, Gnort, and that one time in Elseworlds that Barda was a GL and Scott lived in her ring, in order of favourite-ness.

YAY! You know, for some reason that I cannot grasp, I have suddenly found myself with a lot of Hal love, and I don't know what to do with it. I don't even know Hal very well... this book looks awesome, I so going to hunt it down. The art is... different, and I like. And Clark totally checking him out, all right.

I don't know what to do with my Guy love either. What's with the Green Lanterns, suddenly being awesome? Not that they aren't, but I usually don't like them so much...

Yeah; I know Clark's Super and all, but knowing that specifically about Hal's body was a little interesting. XD

I don't know what it is, exactly, but it's definitly surging up. When I first made my sub list, there was only two GL titles to even put on it; now there's three, at least until Ion ends at #12, plus Guy's two-book Prestige Format special... a lot.

One of the reasons I got back into comic books was this friend of mine who's obsessed with him to the point of wearing a plastic GL ring 24/7 for years, so I can't really help it. XD

GL fans on all sides are more obsessive than most comic fans. There's something about the mythology, no matter the aspect, that inspires strange, cult-like dedication.

I do wish I'd thought to scan these onto scans_daily as part of my ongoing quest to show that Hal is a good character.

Neil is a huge Hal and GLC fan. He's mentioned he has this 12-part epic GLC/Hal story he's wanted to write... god, I hope it happens some day.

It's by <a href="http://www.dcuguide.com/GL/GLSm_001.php</a>, actually, different for each section. All these scans are from Chapter One, and I think by Terry Austin. If that's who you mean.

The script was written in 1988, but the book wasn't published until 2000; the Wiki entry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Lantern/Superman:_Legend_of_the_Green_Flame) has all about it.

Nope, not even that's it. DC haven't decided yet, which makes the current Superman Confidential out of continuity since there is no established continuity for Superman, "New Earth" gets my vote for worst idea of 2006.

on 2006-12-11 08:28 pm (UTC)
Posted by [identity profile] edgechick816.livejournal.com
Which is a damn shame, since Superman: Confidential is actually a good book, and the *only* Superman book I buy. And the vegetarian thing I ignore, because Clark grew up on a farm, the boy eats meat, kthanksbye,

Busiek isn't using the vegetarian bit (http://dcboards.warnerbros.com/web/thread.jspa?threadID=2000082902&start=582), though. Which I think is wise. It's at the heart of the modern conception of Superman that while he has many parts and roles, his truest self is the Kansas farmboy, Jonathan and Martha Kent's son. And Jonathan and Martha Kent's son? Highly unlikely to be a vegetarian.

That's why Jordan and especially Raynor are much more fun than Stewart. They have much more imagination and are more resourceful with their rings. Stewart is too much of a Marine, too utilitarian and not nearly as creative.

Posted by [identity profile] thehefner.livejournal.com
Er, well, the ANIMATED Stewart was, yes. One of the few things I didn't like about the show.

But the COMIC Stewart is an architect, so you can just imagine the imagination on that guy.

John Stewart needs to begin wearing ascots again, as he did when he was first introduced in the 1970s.

Wow, you made me like Hal. That's skills. He's one of those characters I really don't like right now, but will probably end up loving once I read him more. Ollie and Kyle were both like that for me too.
For some reason, the "I think we're being mugged" panel has my heart, I love Clark's expression. :D
This whole thing would make a good animated icon.

Guy still gets on my nerves though, lol.

This is awesome! I love Neil Gaiman, I love stories where Clark just hangs out with his friends, and the two together makes me squee. :D I wasn't aware that Neil had written these guys at all, so thank you for that.

Please note that Clark is a vegetarian.
Well, Birthright is the only storyline, to my memory, that tabs Clark as a vegetarian. It's completely possible for Clark to have tried vegetarianism for a while, then decide it wasn't for him. (Of course, if this was written before Birthright was...)
