Teen Titans Year One #4

This series is so friggin' cute. It's like everything I'd ever want from a revisit to the early Teen Titans days... well, kinda. Wonder Girl being gaga for some boy band and Garth being a nervous nelly every day of the week... well. I guess that just accentuates how young they are, right? Never thought I'd miss the Aqualad-fro.
There is, however, a great little Wally West coming out of this.
I don't have much to say right now, because according to my mother I'm sick in the head and possibly going to grow up to be a serial killer because I was watching Dexter and enjoying it.
::goes out and takes a drive::
Alright, where were we?

Oh, Mary West. See, I always liked her, flaws and all; she's doing the best she can with a psychotic husband and a hellion son hiding an unbelievable secret from her his entire teenage life. His incredibly conceited little teenage life.

::giggles:: That sounds so dirty.

Okay now, just look at Wally's face here in comparison to the other captives. They're all downtrodden by being captured. Donna appears to be attempting escape. Wally's just sad that he's being hopelessly upstaged. Shallow? Maybe. Just a little. What else does this say about little Wally West. No fear. I'm not sure if they were trying to emphasize that Wally makes a poor leader or that if anyone listened to him at all it would have gone better. Even still, I'm not sure where all this animosity toward Robin is coming from; Kid Flash might have punched him in the face or screamed at him now and then, but he never really denied that Dick was their leader when all was said and done. When he wanted to be in charge? He just left the Titans.
This issue was all about the flaws of the little Titans, so it's to be expected; on the whole, I don't think it was as strong as the first three issues, but that's how a built-up issue can work sometimes, and it was a lot of fun. Could have picked a better villain, though.
And the moral of the story seemed to be that Alfred is the one who really knows what's up.
I enjoyed this more than Green Lantern this past week, which is weird and kinda telling. About which series, I'm not sure.
Anyway, don't take my word for it. 'Cause I'm craaaa-aaazy. ::rolls eyes::

on 2008-05-05 03:15 am (UTC)I think part of the emphasis is also on the fact that Robin doesn't care if he's on TV or not, or about being leader of the Titans except the part about doing good for the world. It kinda seems to me that the rest of them, despite superpowers or being from Atlantis, etc, are still just normal kids who do the same stuff as any other kid, but Robin, the most "normal" of all of them, just hasn't had the same kind of childhood.
I'll stop rambling at you now. :)

on 2008-05-05 03:58 am (UTC)Dick does come out like that in this book, yeah. I always take that as sort of a given for him. I think that's why he does make for such a good leader.
Ramble at me as much as you'd like, as long as I can ramble back. :D

on 2008-05-05 05:54 am (UTC)God, Wally is so adorable. Thought I share that, too. And also that I wish I wasn't broke so I could go out and buy this series, I'm so sad I'm missing out on owning the awesomeness of this series. The bright colors (especially of Kid Flash's costume) really stimulate me. Because I am clearly a small, malleable child at heart.
Also, I love the wallpaper in Wally's house. Is detail like that common, would you say? I'm still mostly scared of (non-bright, stimulating) comic book series.

Dude, I've just been text messaging my ass off about one of my male cats trying to mount another male cat, which is either here nor there, but it's so weird to switch back to a keyboard. ANYWAY.
"om nom nom?" What kind of macros are you doing, the chewing on stuff kind? XD

on 2008-05-05 06:29 am (UTC)Dude, really? Cats do that? But, okay, not as weird as the Antarctic fur seal caught trying to do the nasty with a penguin (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7379554.stm), but that's still really weird. Did he get confused or something?
(Okay, I really just wanted to share the article. I feel bad for laughing so hard. That poor penguin.)
Yes, yes, the kind where they eat. I want to om nom nom something right now but my dad wouldn't buy me groceries and I'm borked. I don't even have Ramen or cereal! What kind of college are these people running?
I never see you on AIM anymore, it makes me very sad D:

Hmm, that's true. I mostly just chalked it up to Wally having a brief teenage tantrum, not really anything serious. *ponders this*

Entirely possible; I guess we'll have to wait and see how the plot thread unravels.
